FRP Canada Seeking Multiple Writers for New Resource Guide

Deadline for Applications is February 16, 2010 by 10:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time

The Canadian Association of Family Resource Programs (FRP Canada) is inviting contributions from family support practitioners, researchers, academics and others with an interest and expertise in chapter topics for a guide which will replace the Caring about Families resource.

Content for the publication
The intent of the new guide is to provide the reader with some basic information about various topics/areas to consider when opening and operating a family resource centre. Each chapter will include information that is unique to family resource centres, incorporating relevant content from various FRP Canada publications. At the end of each chapter, there will be checklists and a resources section where the information/website addresses for supplementary materials will be listed.

A suggested outline of each chapter area can be downloaded here. This is a starting point; we welcome your ideas for additions/changes to the chapter contents.

Intended audience:
  • for practitioners who work for an organization and would like to explore the option of starting a family resource centre within their current organization
  • for practitioners who work within different sectors (such as education, child welfare) which have similar models
  • for policy makers, other government officials and funders who support existing family resource programs or are considering implementation of this model in their area of jurisdiction
  • for parents, community groups or anyone who would like to open a new centre in their local community
  • for students studying the field of family support

Level of language:
The guide will be written in English. The level of language written should be clear and easily understood by practitioners in the family support field, funders, policy makers, researchers and others that may not be familiar with the workings of a family resource centre.

Process of review
The detailed outline and first draft of the chapter will be reviewed by an advisory committee. Feedback from the advisory committee will be communicated to the contributor through the project coordinator at FRP Canada. The second draft of the chapter will be reviewed by an editor. If required, revisions to the chapter will be communicated through the editor and the project coordinator at FRP Canada. FRP Canada reserves the right to final edit.

Deadlines
A detailed outline and estimate of words are due by February 26th, 2010. The first draft of the chapter is due by March 12, 2010. The second draft is due by April 5th, 2010. Final revisions, if necessary, will be due by May 30, 2010.

Recognition
Each author will receive formal authorship recognition and a $1500 honorarium in appreciation of their contribution. The first payment of $750 will be paid when the first draft is completed. The second payment of $750 will be paid when the chapter is finalized and accepted by the advisory committee and FRP Canada.

Application process
Authors must have a clear understanding of the principles of family support. Authors may have various backgrounds such as family support, psychology, organizational management, sociology, social work, settlement services or a related sector to the chapter topics.

If this opportunity is of interest to you, please complete and return the downloadable Expression of Interest form (a fillable Word document) together with a sample of your writing to ccolbert@frp.ca by February 16, 2010, 10:00 a.m.  Eastern Standard Time. Alternatively, you may fax your response to 613-237-8515. Selected contributors will be announced on February 18, 2010.

Please feel free to share this invitation with your colleagues.
